Guancascos entre Ilama y Gualala (Gualala, Santa Bárbara)
In general, this is a fun fair which is held in honour of the patron saint. Traditional food and drinks are served and ancient dances as well as traditional customs are performed. This event distinguishes from others in that it is not only for the entertainment of locals and tourists but also to teach the Catrachos (that’s how the Hondurans call themselves) the roots of their national culture.

The festival of the patron saint Santiago takes place in the community of Santa Elena. Enjoy a fun fair, traditional gambling games and much more. You will find traditional religious rituals of which the “dance of the Negritos” is the most important of the culture of the Lenca.

Festival de Juegos Tradicionales (San Marcos , Santa Bárbara)
The traditional Games used to be part of the children’s entertainment and development at the educational centres, on the street, in the park and in many other places. Nowadays hardly any children take part in these traditional games. The development of new technologies starting with the TV is mainly to blame for this situation.
The inhabitants of San Marcos organize this festival every last Sunday of April each year. The peculiarity of this festival lies in its originality and popularity which exalts national pride and identity. Therefore the State department in the offices of Culture, Art and Sports has included it in its calendar of events and traditions celebrated in Honduras.

Carnaval de la Ceiba (La Ceiba)
Lively, spectacular and colourful – that is the best way to describe the parade of the Gran Carnival de La Amistad. More than 30 decorated carriages and carnival groups and more than 200000 people may explain why La Ceiba is called the “Capital of Joy”.
It is a vibrant and multicultural festival. There are pretty girls on each carriage who wear colourful costumes and dance to the sounds of tropical music.
The Brazilian carnival group Gavioes Samba Show is the sensation among this variety. They dance and play samba along the whole Avenida San Isidro.
The spectators can also enjoy other carnival groups as for example Fantasía, Hawaian Tropic, Televicento und Gran Caimán.
The Garifuna dancing groups stand out from the others with their Punta rhythm showing their African roots.
It is an unforgettable night of
music and joy
with colour and magic.
La Ceiba really is the capital of joy with its Gran Carnival de La Amistad.
June

Feria Juniana
The fair of the patron saint has always been celebrated in June and finishes on July, 4th in honour of San Pedro, the patron saint of the city. This fair is named “Fiesta Juniana“, there are traditional parades and other attractions as for example electronic games. The carnival, which is celebrated on June, 29th, is the highlight of this event which involves the election of the beauty queen. The Feria Juniana is the second largest festival in Honduras after the carnival in La Ceiba.
July
Festival Garífuna (Bajamar , Cortés)
Different Garifuna communities take part in this big event. They present their music, their own dances, typical food and other special sportive events. This is a festival to keep the traditions alive and to enjoy folklore together.
On the beach you can admire the self-made huts of the people of Bajamar and also enjoy different traditional food such as seafood, coconut bread and machuca. In the evening you see the whole community and tourists enjoying the festival organized for them. To get to Bajamar you have to cross the community of Travesia.

Festival de la Tuza (Nueva Celilac, Santa Bárbara)
This festival shows the importance of the maize to the Honduran people. Traditional dances are taking place and you can also enjoy a lot of delicacies made of maize.

Celebración de los Juegos Florales (San Marcos de Ocotepeque)
The festival of the flower games of San Marcos de Ocotepeque in the west of Honduras calls annually for a competition of poetry and story telling. The award is country wide recognized and supports especially poets and story tellers from the west of the country.
The patronage for the award is cared for by the regional government of San Marcos de Ocotepeque and the jury of the flower games of the city.
November

Festival del Pan (La Paz)
Each backer can’t wait for the third Sunday in November each year. On this day the bread festival is celebrated and a huge amount of bread is prepared, as it is the most important part of the festival.
The target of the celebration is to involve as many bakers as possible from the region. On this occasion some secrets of how to make the best bread are revealed. Everybody is also looking forward to the election of the “Queen of breads” as a part of the festival.

The most important celebrations in Santa Barbara are the celebration of the patron saint and the observance of Holy Week. The patron saint festival or feria patronal, in Santa Barbara is celebrated annually from December 1-12. The festival is characterized by parties, a parade, cultural events, artisan expositions and religious observances.
