1502 On his fourth voyage Columbus meets a Mayan vessel in the in the bay of  Honduras
1519 Cortés lands on the island of Cozumel
1525 Cortés meets king Can-Ek in the Itzá-capital Tayasal (today: Flores) on his tour through Mayaland to Honduras
1697 The island city of Tayasal is completely destroyed by the Spaniards using an especially converted gunboat; the existence of the last independent Maya-kingdom came to an end.
1712 Uprising of the Tzeltal-Maya in Chiapas
1761 Uprising of yucatec Maya
1820 Uprising of the Quiché-Maya of Totonicapán in Guatemala
1847-1855 war in Yucatán, in which the Maya nearly succeed in conquering the whole peninsula
